Objecting to applications for alcohol and entertainment licences.

How can we help you?

  • Advising upon whether a licence application complies with the requirements of the Licensing Act 2003
  • Advising upon the procedure for objecting to an application for a licence
  • Providing advice regarding and/or representation at a Licensing Hearing
  • Advising on bringing an appeal against a decision taken at a Licensing Hearing before the Magistrates Court.

Under the Licensing Act 2003 individuals may oppose the grant or variation of licences permitting:

  • The supply of alcohol;
  • The provision of regulated entertainment (for example playing live or recorded music);
  • The sale of food between 11pm and 5am.

Objections must be received within the specified time period and relate to at least one of the following licensing objectives:

  • The prevention of crime and disorder;
  • Public safety;
  • The prevention of public nuisance;
  • The protection of children from harm.

Our licensing solicitors are experienced in handling objections to licence applications. We understand the potential consequences the granting of a licence can have and can use the knowledge obtained from similar applications to our client’s advantage.
