International and jurisdictional issues

Our family law team has significant experience in acting for international individuals at all levels, both in and outside of the EU.

We can assist with:

  • "Forum shopping" - where to start divorce proceedings

There can be huge differences in relation to the outcome of financial proceedings, and in particular in relation to division of assets and spousal maintenance, depending on where divorce proceedings are started. England and Wales, for example, have a reputation for being the "divorce capital" of the world and particularly generous to wives. We can advise you about the most appropriate place to begin divorce proceedings, liaising with lawyers in other jurisdictions where necessary, to achieve the most favourable outcome for your circumstances.

  • Pre nuptial agreements

We have extensive experience in preparing pre nuptial agreements to safeguard your financial position. This includes drafting international pre-nuptial agreements and liaising with other lawyers to produce mirror agreements in other countries.

  • Leave to remove

We have experience in applications to remove children from the jurisdiction of England and Wales. We can also act quickly where a child has been removed from this jurisdiction without consent.
