Equine Disputes

In the event of an equine dispute, you need to be sure that your solicitors have a depth of experience and specialist expertise in that area of law. Our practice includes solicitors who are members of the County Land and Business Association (CLA), the National Farmers Union (NFU) and the Agricultural Law Association (ALA). This allows us to provide you with a wide range of equine experience developed through strong, long-standing relationships with the rural community, both locally and nationally.

For claims valued under £5000 we would recommend that you proceed through the Small Claims Court. A comprehensive guide to the Small Claims Court can be downloaded here.

For claims with a value over £5000, our solicitors can offer comprehensive advice on many aspects of equine law, including:-

  • Disputes arising from the sale and purchase of horses/cattle (e.g. fitness for purpose and satisfactory quality when buying a horse)
  • The false advertisement of a purchased horse
  • Professional negligence (when a vet or horse valuer gets it wrong)
  • Personal injury (pursing cases when a horse rider gets injured for e.g. falling off a horse or defending a horse owner when someone gets injured riding their horse, or where a horse has had an accident)
  • Horse welfare issues including defending prosecutions brought by the RSPCA (the bad treatment of a horse or other animals)
  • Insurance disputes (e.g. crop damage insurance claims and claims involving loss of profits concerning race horses which have been injured)

We can act for you if the dispute is based in England and Wales.  Regrettably, we cannot assist with disputes based in other jurisdictions, such as Scotland or Northern Ireland
